NGĀTI MARU (TARANAKI) – RATIFICATION OF POST SETTLEMENT GOVERNANCE ENTITY

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Maru is currently in direct negotiations with the Crown for the settlement of the historical claims of Ngāti Maru (Taranaki).  Although the Rūnanga is still working towards Deed of Settlement, it seeks to ratify the establishment of its Post Settlement Governance Entity (PSGE), prior to ratifying the Deed of Settlement.

The proposed PSGE is a private trust, named Te Kāhui Maru, which will receive and manage all Ngāti Maru (Taranaki) settlement assets on behalf of the iwi.  In order for the PSGE to receive the assets, the iwi must ratify the PSGE through a formal ratification process.  We now invite all members of Ngāti Maru (Taranaki) to participate in this process through attending information hui and voting on the following resolution:

I, as a member, of Ngāti Maru, agree that:

  • Te Kāhui Maru Trust will be the Post Settlement Governance Entity (“PSGE”) to receive and manage historical Treaty of Waitangi settlement redress on behalf of Ngāti Maru;
  • Te Kāhui Maru Trust receive a payment of $15 million on-account of the financial redress amount;
  • Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Maru will be dissolved by the settlement legislation; and
  • the assets and liabilities of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Maru will be vested in the PSGE, Te Kāhui Maru Trust.

Voting packs have been sent to all registered members of Ngāti Maru (Taranaki) who are over the age of 18.
